Dr. Arup Kumar Bose

Dr. Arup Kumar Bose is a seasoned Ophthalmologist from Hooghly in West Bengal with more than two decades of rich experience. He was the first in the district and among very few in the state to perform phacoemulsification with implantation of foldable lenses in 1993. An excellent student during his academic career, Dr. Bose is Medical Director of Bose Eye Microsurgery & Laser Centre which is considered as a world class comprehensive eye research, training and rehabilitation centre. Founded by Dr. Bose in 1990, institute has grown in to a centre of excellence in the field of Ophthalmology and gives thrust on comprehensive patient care, clinical research, sight enhancement, rehabilitation and community eye health. Institute aims to provide 20% of its surgical services to underprivileged class of society. It has state-of-the-art facilities coupled with latest technical know-how for management of anterior and posterior segment of eye disease. 

Dr. Bose has accomplished MBBS from Medical College, Kolkata followed by postgraduate diploma and degree from Institute of Ophthalmology, AMU- Aligarh in 1989 and 1991 respectively. He also has DNB degree which he pursued in 1991. Post completion of his academic career, Dr. Bose started practice in the suburbs of Kolkata with a dream and outlook to bring modern technology and treatment to the remote areas of Hooghly. He started performing latest and complicated eye surgeries at remote corners like Mogra and gained widespread recognition and popularity. 

Dr. Bose is recipient of 'Certificate of Honor' from The Barnet Dulany Eye Foundation (USA) in 1999 and 'Certificate of Honor for Excellence in Phakic IOLs (Verisys Training Programme)' from Dr Burkhard Dick, MD, Mainz, Germany in 2003. 

Till date, Dr. Bose has presented papers in addition to donning hats of a Moderator and Judge at various state, regional and national level conferences. He was elected as an Executive Member of the Ophthalmological Society of West Bengal in 2009-2010 and was a Member of Dry Eye Board. Dr. Bose has performed live surgeries in various conferences and workshops organised at state, national level besides conducting various studies on Dry Eye and Ocular Allergy.
